Information Dis/Order in Contemporary Times: False Information and Popular Misconceptions in Public Discourse is a panel presented by the Library Faculty Curriculum Committee (LFCC).

Join MRU faculty members Dr. Brooks DeCillia, Dr. Naomi Grant, and Joel Blechinger as they discuss false information, popular myths and misconceptions in the current information ecosystem.

Dr. DeCillia will be presenting on journalism's role in combating misinformation, including best practices for fact checking and presenting fact checks to the public. Dr. Grant will discuss some popular misconceptions in psychology, and the challenges that exist in combating misinformation from a psychological perspective. Joel Blechinger will be presenting on librarian Patrick Wilson’s influential book Second-Hand Knowledge: An Inquiry into Cognitive Authority (1983) and how Wilson’s ideas can be used to understand misinformation and disinformation.
