Women's Volleyball:
The Mount Royal Cougars women's volleyball team swept the University of Manitoba Bisons this weekend on Kenyon Court 3-1 both Friday (25-23, 25-20, 19-25, 25-22) and Saturday (22-25, 25-16, 25-16, 25-20) night. They now sit 8-4 on the season and 4th on the U SPORTS Top 10 list.
First year Sydney Scatcherd had 16 kills Friday night for the Cougars, earning herself player of the game, while Madison Marshall also had 16 and Haley Roe had 10. Saturday night was the same with Marshall getting 15 kills, Roe earning 14 and Mya Morgan hammering 11 out of the middle.
The Cougars will be back in action in 2023 January 6 and 7 against the University of Winnipeg Westman. You can watch the games live on Canada West TV.
Men's Volleyball:
Now on a four game win streak, the Mount Royal Cougars men's volleyball team swept the University of Manitoba Bisons this weekend on Kenyon Court (25-18, 25-19, 25-21) Friday and (25-23, 25-19, 25-22) on Saturday. The win secured them 5th place on the U SPORTS Top 10 list.
Jackson Brennan earned himself 51 assists and got his team a 0.492 kill efficiency this weekend. Brennan also setup Luis Lange for 8 kills, Jacob Van Geel for 12 kills and captain Chris Byam for 21 to set the offensive pace.
The men start off the new year in Manitoba against the University of Winnipeg Westman January 6 and 7. Watch the games live on Canada West TV.
Women's Hockey:
Coming off a road sweep against the Trinity Western Spartans, the MRU Cougars now sit at 5th place on the U SPORTS Top 10 list and 14-4-0 on the season. The women won 3-0 on Friday night and 4-3 Saturday night in a overtime nail biter.
Courtney Kollman led the scoring on Friday night with 2 goals, the third being scored by Aliya Jomha. Saturday night Morgan Ramsey, Kiana McNich, Athena Hauck and Jomha all scored goals to beat the Spartans.
Back at home to start the new year, the women's team will play January 6 at Flames Community Arena against the University of Alberta Pandas at 7 p.m. and then on the road January 7, also at 7 p.m. in Edmonton. Men's Hockey:
The Cougars men's hockey team finished out the first half of the season with a split weekend against the Trinity Western Spartans, winning 6-1 on Friday night and losing 4-3 in overtime on Saturday. They remain in the 5th overall position on the U SPORTS Top 10 list and head into the new year 12-6-0 on the season.
With goals from Ethan Regnier, Zafir Rawji and Nolan Yaremko, Spencer Moe, as well as two from Riley Sawchuk and a hat trick from Connor Bouchard, the Cougars had a strong offensive game with goalie Shane Farkas defending 17 shots on Friday to secure the win.
The Cougars will start the new year playing the University of Alberta Golden Bears on January 6 in Edmonton at 7 p.m. and January 7 the Cougars return home to Flames Community Arena at 7 p.m. You can purchase tickets here or watch the game live on Canada West TV.
