Reminder regarding masking on campus
Next to being vaccinated, masking is the best way to support in-person instruction, which we know many students are looking forward to. For this reason, the following decisions have been made and became effective on Monday, Aug. 16.

  • Masks are mandatory in classrooms and labs.
  • Masks are mandatory in any indoor gatherings of 20 or more people.
  • Masks are strongly recommended in common spaces, including hallways and meeting/group areas.
  • If you are not fully vaccinated, masks are strongly recommended in all areas on campus.
  • If you are working alone in an office or similar work space, you do not need to wear a mask.

AHS student vaccination clinic to be held Wednesday, Sept. 8

MRU is working on providing students with on-campus vaccination opportunities, beginning with an AHS-held clinic on Wednesday, Sept. 8 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Cougars Concourse upstairs in Recreation. Please help spread the word as much as possible. Students will need to bring their Alberta Health Care card or government-issued photo ID to receive their first or second shot (Pfizer of Moderna). Additional opportunities will be available later in September. More information.

Learn more about MRU’s state-of-the-art HVAC system
As faculty and employees transition back to campus, there have been many questions about how MRU ensures safe air quality within buildings. Grant Sommerfeld, associate vice-president of facilities management, explains how Mount Royal’s HVAC system works to keep the indoor air in buildings as clean as possible. Watch here.

Rekeying complete in several areas

If you haven’t already done so, faculty and employees in the following areas will need to visit Security to retrieve their new office keys: A-Wing all floors, B156, D101, E110, E102, E106, E15, F101, F103, I151, I143, I143A, T110, T115, Document Services, Cougars Campus Store and Parking, Environmental Health and Safety, G208, E208, E23, M200, Leacock and Wright Theatres, U205, U216 Wellness Services, W301 MRSA, W321 and Y201 Access and Inclusion Services. The new cores and keys are sticky so please call Security if you are not able to access your space with your key.

Mandatory management information sessions
To ensure that leaders are aware of the COVID-19 controls being implemented on campus and the respective employee expectations, all managers are required to attend a mandatory, in-person HR management information session this month. Please sign up as soon as possible.

Submit requests to Facilities Management using Frontline
Frontline is the best way to submit and track requests involving key/access cards, building maintenance and repairs, furniture requests and more. If a request is related to medical accommodation through Human Resources, please note this in your request description. As many requests are being made, please note that some timelines may not be able to be met. To find out more on how Facilities Management can help support your transition back to campus, go here.

Abuse of staff not tolerated
As the University prepares for the arrival of students in September, please be patient and tolerant as all departments and units are working very hard to prepare. Abuse of staff is not acceptable.

Did you know?
Where the Cougars Campus Store is today was once a billiards hall with 12 pool tables and Tim Hortons used to be the campus bar called the Rathskeller. During the late ‘70s, students were so broke that they were found to be living in ducts in the ceiling just to save money on rent.
