Skills for supporting survivors of sexual violence
This workshop is designed to give participants the knowledge, skills and tools necessary to better understand sexual violence and trauma, and to effectively support someone who discloses sexual violence. Participants will leave this workshop with an enhanced understanding of consent, sexual violence, sexual harassment, sexual assault and trauma as well as skills for supporting survivors of sexual violence. Encourage a student to become a SAMRU executive council member
The Student Governing Board of the Students’ Association of Mount Royal University (SAMRU) is seeking passionate individuals of diverse backgrounds to run in the SAMRU elections and join the Board in providing governance, oversight and direction for SAMRU on behalf of the organization’s 12,000 Mount Royal University student members. Nominations are live now at samru.ca/elections. The deadline to apply is Jan. 19 at 4:30 p.m.

Countering Consumerism Contest
The Institute for Environmental Sustainability is running a Countering Consumerism Contest, where students are asked to post a social media video that inspires, encourages or incites mindful consumption of fashion for a chance to win a $5,000 cash prize. Check out all the contest rules and please share with your students.
Teaching systems thinking
Map the System is a competition opportunity for MRU student changemakers to showcase their research, systems mapping and presentation skills on a global stage. Students can apply as an individual or as a team to demonstrate their understanding of a social or environmental issue by taking a systems-led approach. Students must apply by Jan. 31 at mru.ca/MaptheSystem to participate.
Hot water shut-off (including washrooms) in W, X, and Y wing on Jan. 8
Please be aware that the hot water will be shut off in W-wing, X-wing and Y-wing from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on all floors. Only cold water will be available during this time. This work is being done as part of the W-Wing renovations. Signs will be posted.
All campus washrooms have new touchless Purell foaming hand soap dispensers installed and working, which have been confused as hand sanitizer. The old hand soap dispensers will be allowed to run out of soap and will be removed by Building Ops over the new year.

This circular area in front of the Recreation desk is a relic of Mount Royal's old 1970s wrestling pit. The wrestling floor was on ground level, and onlookers could stand on the second floor to watch the match below.

Start of semester emails, with option for distribution list sign-up
As each semester begins (August/September and December/January), areas with ongoing employee activities can send an email to all employees describing their semester activities. Employees can then choose to opt in to that area's distribution list (Google Group) for regular updates. If you would like to send an email and/or set up a Google Group for your area, please contact Marketing and Communications for guidelines.
