Kerby

Special visitors arrive to MRU

On June 13, Paul Kerby, great-grandson of Mount Royal's first principal, Dr. George W. Kerby, toured Mount Royal along with his family. The Kerbys viewed personal items and mementoes of Dr. Kerby in the Library Archives and Special Collections, enjoyed a flight in the aviation simulator and visited areas on campus named after Dr. Kerby.

Announcements

Stampede Parade morning

Yahoo! The morning — 8:30 a.m. to noon — of the Calgary Stampede Parade on Friday, July 8 is a paid holiday for all Mount Royal employees. If you want to take off the rest of Parade Day, please get approval from your supervisor and report the 3.5 hours as leave/vacation in your timesheet.

Summer hours

From July 1 to Aug. 14 the regular operating hours for most departments is 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a 30-minute lunch break. Exceptions are necessary for some departments, and managers will communicate those exceptions with their teams as needed. Flexibility for employees who have to balance work with family responsibilities will continue to be supported. 

Temporary summer parking permits now available

Temporary summer permits for July and August are now available for purchase on Hotspot. Anyone who currently holds an annual permit will need to purchase a one-time temporary summer permit this year only. Also a reminder that new Parking and Traffic Bylaws take effect on Friday, July 1. Should you receive a parking ticket, fines will be reduced by 50 per cent if paid within 10 days of the fine being issued. For more information, please visit the parking website.

Washrooms in Mainstreet, E, I and W wings will be closed on Saturday, June 25, 2022

If you will be on campus on Saturday, June 25, please be aware that plumbing repairs will force the closure of all washrooms in these three wings plus Main Street on all floors. Washrooms will be re-opened Sunday, June 26. Signs will be posted. Questions can be directed to fm@mtroyal.ca.

Did you know?

Mount Royal's students' council is the second oldest in Alberta, with evidence of activity dating as far back as 1912. In 1967, the students' association decided to incorporate under the Alberta Societies Act, which is when the when the Student's Association of Mount Royal (SAMRU) was officially born. Read more

Education award goes to MRU instructor

Dr. Leslie Robertson, PhD, of the Department of Education, received a 2022 Calgary Black Achievement Award (CBAA) for making a positive impact in the education field. The CBAA Hall of Fame recognizes Black people in the Calgary area who have exhibited an impressive history of high achievement, success, and excellence.

Start of semester emails, with option for distribution list
sign-up

As each semester begins (August/September and December/January), areas with ongoing employee activities can send an email to all employees describing their semester activities. Employees can then choose to opt in to that area's distribution list (Google Group) for regular updates. If you would like to send an email and/or set up a Google Group for your area, please contact Marketing and Communications for guidelines.
