Announcements

Reminder to please stay home when ill

The province is now in Step 3 of its response to COVID-19 and has removed remaining health measures. The requirement to isolate when symptomatic or ill with COVID-19 has been lifted, however the province recommends the practice continue. Mount Royal strongly recommends that University students, faculty, employees and visitors do not come to campus if they are symptomatic or ill with COVID-19 or any other communicable illness and are encouraged to complete the self-isolation/case report form when positive or experiencing symptoms. Keep visiting mru.ca/COVID19 for updates.  

New cybersecurity awareness training

Look for an email notification in your inbox in the next couple of weeks announcing the new cybersecurity awareness training. This year's program has been updated and will run a little differently. Check the Cybersecurity Blog for details.

Temporary summer parking permits now available

Temporary summer permits for July and August are now available for purchase on Hotspot. Anyone who currently holds an annual permit will need to purchase a one-time temporary summer permit this year only. Also a reminder that new Parking and Traffic Bylaws take effect on Friday, July 1. Should you receive a parking ticket, fines will be reduced by 50 per cent if paid within 10 days of the ticket being issued. For more information, please visit the parking website.

Bissett School of Business (EB) A-wing link entrance closed July 7 to 21

The A-Wing link that connects EB and Kerby Hall will be closed for construction and generator maintenance starting today. Signs will be posted. The remaining EB entrances will be open, as will the entrance into Kerby Hall that faces the East Gate lawn. Questions can be directed to fm@mtroyal.ca.

Water shut-off in T-Wing

On Tuesday, July 12, the water will be shut off in the T-Wing (main building) from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on all floors. This will impact all washrooms and kitchens. The work is being done as part of plumbing maintenance and signs will be posted. Questions can be directed to mrufrontline@mtroyal.ca.

Biomass research reveals effects of industrialization

Assistant professor of mathematics Andria Dawson and colleagues have published a paper in the esteemed journal Science titled, “8000-year doubling of Midwestern forest biomass driven by population- and biome-scale processes,” which explores changes in woody biomass over eight millenia in order to better understand the magnitude of terrestrial carbon fluxes before industrial-era disturbance. The paper’s abstract states, “What took millennia to accumulate took less than two centuries to remove: Industrial-era logging and agriculture have erased this carbon accumulation.” Read more about Dawson and her research.

Start of semester emails, with option for distribution list

As each semester begins (August/September and December/January), areas with ongoing employee activities can send an email to all employees describing their semester activities. Employees can then choose to opt in to that area's distribution list (Google Group) for regular updates. If you would like to send an email and/or set up a Google Group for your area, please contact Marketing and Communications for guidelines.
