Outstanding Alumni Award 2023 nominees announced
Each year, the Mount Royal Alumni Association celebrates and recognizes alumni who represent the vision and values of their alma mater through the Outstanding Alumni Awards. This year's nominees are systems thinkers, advocates, leaders, storytellers and compassionate caretakers. Meet the nominees.
More choice in washroom facilities: Main building
Effective May 1, more multi-user washrooms on campus will be redesignated as all-gender, which means everyone can use them. The locations are in the Main Building (Level 1: E135 and E139; I141 and I145; N166 and N170; Level 2: E233 and E237; N246 and N248; S204 and S206; U202 and U206; Level 3: N342 and N346). Learn more about this change for a more equitable and inclusive campus, including the locations of more redesignated washrooms in June.
Coming soon: Wellness Wednesdays
Starting in May, Employee Wellness will be presenting Wellness Wednesdays. Be on the lookout for initiatives designed to support employee wellness, from community acupuncture to mental-health awareness sessions to yoga in the park. Learn more.
MasterClass pilot opportunity (professional development)
Talent Development in Human Resources is partnering with MasterClass to pilot development opportunities for employees. Starting May 1, these seven-week courses will feature hybrid development opportunities on topics such as Communication and Collaboration and Leadership for Everyday Leaders. Learn more.
Apply to the Library Awards for Research Excellence
Do you know a student who has completed an outstanding project, paper or creative work while attending MRU? Encourage them to apply to this year's Library Awards for Research Excellence for a chance to win cash for their hard work. Over $3,000 in awards are available to students. Deadline to apply is May 9.
Education tutoring showcase
The MRU community is invited to a special tutoring showcase presented by Bachelor of Education students on April 17 in the Ideas Lounge from 4 to 7 p.m. There will be six consecutive presentations rotating every 10 minutes; three on the visualization wall and three on the Smartboards. Take a peek at the draft visuals while students prepare for the showcase.
EDI training pilot full
Thank you to the Mount Royal community for the enthusiastic response to the call for participants to review the University’s broad-based (introductory) equity, diversity and inclusivity (EDI) awareness and skills-building training course. Members of the selection committee for the search for a new dean, Faculty of Continuing Education and Extension, have been named. They are: Chad London, provost and vice-president, academic (chair); Kelly Williams-Whitt, dean, Faculty of Business and Communication Studies; Dimitra Fotopoulos, director, professional and continuing education; Joanne Leskow, instructor, continuing education; Laurie Mataition, artistic director, Conservatory; Lee Easton, president, MRFA; Charissa Hovdebo, program coordinator, continuing education; Sonya Sward, student; Nicky Mitchell, systems analyst, continuing education and Dave McLean, director, marketing.

Students encouraged to apply to the Student Governing Board
The Student Governing Board of the Students’ Association of Mount Royal University (SAMRU) is seeking passionate individuals of diverse backgrounds to join the Board in providing governance, oversight and direction for SAMRU on behalf of the organization’s 12,000 Mount Royal University student members. Board members serve two-year terms, and new Governors can expect to begin their roles in May. Interested students can find the instructions and apply online.
