Save the Date: Leaders’ Dialogue: The New University Strategic Plan and Our Way Forward

Employees are invited to join President Tim Rahilly and others for the first Leaders’ Dialogue of the year. The University Strategic Plan 2023-2030 will be the focus of the event. Unpack Vision 2030, understand how the goals will be achieved and learn what’s still to come for university planning on Wednesday, Oct. 11 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Bella Concert Hall.

Employee Wellness: October’s theme is Heart Health

Employee Wellness presents Mount Royal’s Dr. Robyn Madden in the webinar Heartfelt Nutrition: Nourishing Cardiovascular Wellness on Oct. 4 at 10 a.m. The session includes nutrition basics and how proper fuelling of the body plays a critical role in nourishing cardiovascular health. Register now. Also, Employee Wellness and the School of Nursing & Midwifery will offer free blood-pressure testing to employees Oct. 16 to 20. Learn more.

 

EA washrooms closed Sunday, Oct. 1

All washrooms in the EA building will be closed on Sunday, Oct. 1 from 6 to 9 a.m. for plumbing repairs. Kitchenettes (sinks) and fountains will be without water. Signs will be posted.

 

Fire alarm testing across campus

Facilities Management is testing fire alarms on campus. There will be periodic beeping coming from the fire alarm systems until Nov. 15. Learn more.

 

Wellness Wednesdays, Oct. 10: Staying Emotionally Well

For World Mental Health Day, Employee Wellness is presenting Insights into the Mental Health Spectrum: Demystifying How We Think and Stay Emotionally Well. The webinar on Oct. 10 runs from 10 to 11 a.m. Other ways to mark the day include registering for Inkblot Therapy, MRU’s Employee and Family Assistance Program. Our EFAP includes Tranquility, a self-guided cognitive behavioural therapy program. Learn more about other mental health resources and supports.

 

What to do in an emergency

In a campus emergency, employees, students and visitors need to respond safely and quickly. Visit mru.ca/Emergency for more information about MRU’s emergency notification system and procedures, as well as printable posters. There are also What to do in an Emergency blue booklets located in each classroom and department/faculty office, or you can request a copy.

 

Access employee supports through Inkblot Therapy

Register now for Inkblot Therapy, Mount Royal’s new Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP). In addition to providing counselling services for you and your family, Inkblot’s experts include registered nurses, dieticians, coaches and trained experts that help navigate all aspects of life. Inkblot also offers online health assessments, lifestyle coaching and personalized wellness plans in addition to a self-guided cognitive behavioural program. Learn more.

 

MRU Now is the official mobile safety app of Mount Royal University

Download the MRU Now app on your mobile device to be notified during on-campus urgent or time-sensitive events such as power outages, severe weather and evacuation drills. You can also use MRU Now to report safety concerns or incidents, connect with Security Services, request SafeWalk and more.

Washroom closure in A-Wing Oct. 14

Washrooms in A-wing will be closed from approximately 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14. Kitchenettes and fountains will also be without water during this time. Visit Facilities Management’s building notifications page for more information. Contact Facilities Management at mrufrontline@mtroyal.ca with questions or concerns.

 

Water valve replacement in front of RLLC

Beginning Monday, Oct. 9, areas in front of the Riddell Library and Learning Centre will be cordoned off due to a water valve replacement. This will take three weeks to complete and some noise is associated with this work. Visit mru.ca/BuildingNotifications for more information.

 

Get your flu shot on campus: Oct. 16-20

The annual MRU Flu Clinic runs Oct. 16 to 20 in Wellness Services (U216A). Flu shots are available daily between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Please bring your provincial health care card or number. Employee Wellness will also be offering a blood pressure testing clinic at the same time and location.

Drop-In to MOVE MORE with MRU Group Fitness

Interested in trying the MOVE MORE Group Fitness program? Purchase a drop-in pass to participate in one of many classes including barre, pilates, spin, strength and yoga. Drop-in classes are available one hour before the class begins; check availability using the ePlay Activity Calendar. Passes can be purchased in person at the Customer Service Desk. Start of semester emails, with option for distribution list

As each semester begins (August/September and December/January), areas with ongoing employee activities can send an email to all employees describing their semester activities. Employees can then choose to opt in to that area's distribution list (Google Group) for regular updates. If you would like to send an email and/or set up a Google Group for your area, please contact Marketing and Communications for guidelines.
