Represent Mount Royal at Open House on Saturday

Who will be MRU's next Chancellor?
The search for Mount Royal's next Chancellor has started and you might be able to help. Nominations are being accepted for candidates who are leaders in the community and embody MRU's values. The Chancellor is the ceremonial head of the university and presides over convocation ceremonies, confers degrees and acts as an ambassador for MRU and the post-secondary sector. The Mount Royal community is encouraged to submit a nomination by following the steps on mru.ca/ChancellorSearch.
Mount Royal University’s Board of Governors update
MRU Board of Governors Chair Alex Pourbaix has resigned effective Oct. 12, 2023. Pourbaix, executive chair of Cenovus Energy, has been on the board and chair since 2019. Vice-Chair Chris Lee will assume the duties of the chair during this period of transition. The Government of Alberta appoints members of the public to boards of post-secondary institutions to represent the interests of Albertans. Read the full announcement.
Flu Clinic and blood pressure testing on campus
An on-campus flu clinic is open to all employees and students at Wellness Services (U216) this week. Vaccinations are being offered on a first-come, first-served drop-in basis from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday. You must be 18 years of age and bring your provincial health-care card. International students are also welcome with no health card required.
Employee Wellness, along with the School of Nursing and Midwifery, is joining with Wellness Services to provide blood pressure testing during the Flu Clinic. With one in four adults in Canada affected by high blood pressure, it’s important to get tested regularly. Learn more.
COVID-19 vaccinations on campus
You can get your COVID-19 vaccine on campus at Wyckham Pharmacy. Walk-in appointments are available; just bring your valid Alberta Health Care number.
Fire drill on Oct. 24
A fire drill on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 10 a.m. will take up to 30 minutes. The drill includes a mandatory evacuation of all Lincoln Park campus buildings except Residence. Everyone must participate in this important safety exercise. Your co-operation is appreciated. Use the MRU Now app (iOS and Android) for fast notifications. Learn more.
Open Access Week, Oct. 23 to 27
The Library is celebrating Open Access Week, an international event that educates and advocates for equitable knowledge sharing through open access to research, scholarship and educational resources. The Library is celebrating OA champions on campus, highlighting OA initiatives, and hosting a series of workshops for faculty and students. Life Bus coming to campus
Canadian Blood Services makes it easy for members of the Mount Royal community to make a life-saving blood donation. The Life Bus will pick up donors at 12:15 p.m. on Oct. 25 and Nov. 22 outside the Roderick Mah Centre for Continuous Learning (EC building). The bus returns to campus by 1:30 to 2 p.m. If you wish to participate, please arrange it with your supervisor. Contact jjparsons@mtroyal.ca to book a seat. West Residence turns 20
Join the celebration of the 20th anniversary of West Residence on Nov. 9 from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. at RB1025 (West Residence- B Building across from the front desk) There will be a short program at 11:30 a.m. Treats will be served. Water valve replacement in front of RLLC
Beginning Monday, Oct. 23, areas in front of the Riddell Library and Learning Centre will be cordoned off due to a water valve replacement. This will take three weeks to complete and some noise is associated with this work. Learn more.

Boulder Bash returns to MRU Recreation
The annual Boulder Bash returns Oct. 23 to 25. Climb 30 new problems in the challenge round for a chance to participate in a bouldering competition on the evening of Oct. 27. Beginner, intermediate and advanced divisions are available with exciting prizes to be won. Register now.
