MRU Giving Day is November 28, 2023

Giving Day is Tuesday, Nov. 28!

Next week, Mount Royal hosts our third-annual Giving Day. This 24-hour campaign is a way to celebrate philanthropy on campus and highlight the impact of our generous donor community. Join us to hear stories from students, faculty and alumni as they share their Mount Royal experiences. Learn more.

Tickets still available for Giving Day 50/50 cash raffle

There's still time to purchase your tickets for the 50/50 cash raffle and help support MRU students. Ticket sales end Nov. 28 with the winner announced on Nov. 29! Get your tickets.

MRFA members, complete your EDI training by Nov. 30

Mount Royal Faculty Association members have until Nov. 30 to complete Mount Royal’s new broad-based (introductory) EDI awareness and skills building training course. Instructions and the access link can be found under the Employee Training tab of MyMRU. Learn more at mru.ca/EDItraining.

A-wing washrooms closed Nov. 26 

Due to plumbing repairs, all washrooms in the A-wing will be closed on Sunday, Nov. 26 from 7 to 9 a.m. Water will not be available in A-wing kitchenettes and fountains during this time. Learn more at mru.ca/BuildingNotifications.

MRU Camps toy drive!

With your help, the MRU Camps toy drive will bring smiles and holiday cheer to children across Calgary this year. To participate, please bring new, unwrapped toys to the MRU Camps office (EA1016) or the Cougars Campus Store between Nov. 27 and Dec. 6. The toys will be shared with a variety of organizations that work with children and families in our community. 


Holiday campus closures

Please be aware that the campus will be closed from Monday, Dec. 25 through Monday, Jan. 1. Buildings will only be accessible by OneCard. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged not to visit campus during this time. Recreation will remain open to the public, with some exceptions for exams and holidays. Learn more.

Build healthy habits with support from Employee Wellness

Healthy habits can be achieved by breaking goals down into small steps. Employee Wellness invites you to download a habit tracker to track your progress. Join The Art of Living a Long and Healthy Life webinar with Brandon Testa on Nov. 29. Gain strategies to Improve Your Sleep on Dec 13 in a webinar with Bridget Jensen, Canadian director of the Association of Professional Sleep Consultants. Learn more.

Your ticket to IT support

The improved user experience of Information Technology’s online Service Desk lets you submit and check the status of your help requests, and access resources on common IT problems in one convenient location: mru.ca/ITShelp.

Contribute to a clean, comfortable campus

Contribute to a clean campus by emptying your personal bin in the nearest communal sorting station. If the sorting bins in your area have been relocated, please take a photo of the new location and submit a Frontline request so Environmental Services can update their records and ensure the bins are being emptied. If you notice a caretaking issue, let Environmental Services know: mrufrontline@mtroyal.ca; 403.440.6417 or Frontline request.

James Stauch, director of the Institute for Community Prosperity, recently presented The University we Need: An Academy for Tomorrow at TEDxCalgary. His presentation explores how universities and institutions can support and develop innovation into the future.

Ranjan Datta, assistant professor and Canada Research Chair in Community Disaster Research in the Department of Humanities, is a co-author on a new book available for pre-order, Indigenous Practice and Community-Led Climate Change Solutions: The Relevance of Traditional Cosmic Knowledge Systems.

Start of semester emails, with option for distribution list

As each semester begins (August/September and December/January), areas with ongoing employee activities can send an email to all employees describing their semester activities. Employees can then choose to opt in to that area's distribution list (Google Group) for regular updates. If you would like to send an email and/or set up a Google Group for your area, please contact Marketing and Communications for guidelines.
