Holiday break

Mount Royal will be closed for the holiday break from Monday, Dec. 25 through Monday, Jan. 1. The Winter Term commences on Wednesday, Jan. 3 with student orientation; classes begin on Thursday, Jan. 4. Check Rec for its holiday hours. Please enjoy this time to relax, recharge and reconnect.

Submit your timesheet before the holiday break

If you can, submit your timesheet for pay period 26 (hours worked Dec. 17 to 30) before the start of the holiday break. This timesheet needs to be submitted by midnight of Saturday, Dec. 30, which falls during the break.

The deposit day for this pay period is Jan. 9, 2024, which may seem longer than usual because of the early deposit day for pay period 25. Benefits will not be deducted from this pay as it is one of the two non-benefit pay periods of the year. This occurs when there are three pay period ending dates in a month.

Work in G-100 and the T-wing courtyard

Over the next two weeks, there will be exploratory work in the former library space in G-wing. To minimize impact on the campus community, the most disruptive work is being done from Wednesday, Dec. 27 through Friday, Dec. 29, during the holiday break when campus is closed. On Tuesday, Jan. 2 and Wednesday, Jan. 3, there will be varying levels of noise during the day due to machinery operating in the T-wing courtyard. Work on Thursday, Jan. 4 has the potential to create noise in spaces adjacent to G-100. Thank you for your understanding. Learn more.

Save the date: Budget event in January

Join Mount Royal’s Provost, Dr. Chad London, and Vice-President, Finance and Administration, Mustansar Nadeem, at a budget information session on Monday, Jan. 22. More information on this event will be shared closer to the date.

ETOL student Jared Schmidt grabs gold in World Cup events along with his sister Hannah

Jared Schmidt, a student in MRU's Ecotourism and Outdoor Leadership program, recently won two FIS Ski Cross World Cup trophies. The first (and the first World Cup victory for him) was Dec. 8 in Val Thorens, France. He followed that win on Dec. 12 with gold in Aarosa, Switzerland, a victory made that much sweeter by his sister Hannah also finishing first in her event. Originally from Ottawa, Schmidt moved to Calgary in 2018 to join Team Canada’s national ski cross team and competed at the Beijing Olympics. In an MRU story prior to the Games, Schmidt said ETOL was a huge draw as he was looking to enroll in a program in the outdoor sector while being able to train at a high level.
