The Crowchild Classic is happening Wednesday, January 24

It’s January, which means it’s time for the annual Crowchild Classic! The hockey doubleheader featuring both Cougars teams goes down at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Wednesday, Jan. 24. Show up in MRU blue to cheer on the Cougars in this epic match-up. Learn more.

Mandatory fire drill Jan. 23

A practice fire drill on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 10 a.m. will take up to 30 minutes. The drill includes an evacuation of all Lincoln Park campus buildings except Residence. Everyone must participate in this important safety exercise. Your cooperation is appreciated. Use the MRU Now app (iOS and Android) for fast notifications. Updated leave balances available Jan. 19

Employees, your leave balances will show your updated 2024 balances on Friday, Jan. 19 when the pay period 1 process is complete and pay statements are visible. Check your balance in the self-serve portal on the Employee Resources & Timesheet page of MyMRU.

 

Attend budget community update Jan. 22

Join Mount Royal’s Provost and Vice-President, Academic, Dr. Chad London, PhD, and Vice-President, Finance and Administration, Mustansar Nadeem, at a budget information session at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 22, 2024 in Ross Glen Hall. Employees can also attend virtually with a link you will receive in an email on the morning of the event. The update will be recorded and posted on myMRU for those who can’t attend. If you’d like to submit a question, please fill out this form by the end of day Thursday, Jan. 18.

 

Leave category name change

As of Friday, Jan. 19, the leave category for the death of an employee’s immediate family or extended family will be changed from Compassionate Leave to Bereavement Leave. This change reflects the existing language in the Collective Agreement and/or Terms & Conditions for specific employee groups.

 

Painting in W-wing

Facilities Management is starting a paint refresh program of some areas of campus, beginning in the third-floor hallway of W-wing. Work — which will take place weekdays between 4 p.m. and midnight — starts Monday, Jan. 22 and should take about three weeks.

Join Employee Wellness in EC2010 on Jan. 24 for the Your Health and Your Wealth session presented by Sun Life. National campaign supports 2SLGBTQI+ people living with dementia

Dr. Celeste Pang, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Humanities, partnered with Egale Canada on a recently launched national awareness campaign, supported by the Public Health Agency of Canada and in partnership with the National Institute on Ageing, Fondation Émergence, called "Help Us Remain". This campaign, based on her research, aims to spread awareness and improve conditions for 2SLGBTQI+ people living with dementia. Learn more and watch the full video.

Side Hustle Science Fair 2024

Side Hustle Science Fair

The Side Hustle Science Fair is a transformative event hosted by the Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and SAMRU! Student ventures will be on display at Wyckham House on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 1:30 p.m. Set up in the same format as a science fair, students will have the chance to sell directly to attendees, engage in friendly competition with their peers and win prizes as their innovations are judged for creativity, viability and overall appeal. Open to all MRU students. Those interested should apply by Feb. 2. Learn more.

As each semester begins (August/September and December/January), areas with ongoing employee activities can send an email to all employees describing their semester activities. Employees can then choose to opt in to that area's distribution list (Google Group) for regular updates.
