Every drop counts

 

Due to an extensive water main break, the City of Calgary has issued a State of Local Emergency. In addition to outdoor water restrictions, everyone is being asked to reduce indoor water use to help maintain the supply for critical functions. Visit mru.ca/BuildingNotifications for information on what we are doing on campus to contribute to reducing water use and how you can add to this important effort.

 

 

G-wing renovation update

 

As we move forward with planning for the renovation of the G-wing into a vibrant hub of student-based campus services and activity, hazardous material abatement involving asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) will be taking place in G-100 (the former library space) from May through August. This work will be done by trained employees of a contractor licensed to do this specialized work and according to all relevant regulations and guidelines. A third-party environmental consultant will monitor the project, as will Mount Royal’s Environmental Health & Safety department. Learn more



Aviation program has a new home base at Springbank Airport

 

Mount Royal has purchased an aviation facility at Springbank Airport that will serve as the home base of our aviation program. Together with our Bachelor of Aviation Management Degree and two-year Aviation Diploma programs, this facility (with two hangars) will provide room for growth and reinforce our status as the program of choice for students and employers seeking pilots and leaders for the aviation industry. Banner upgrade this weekend

 

Course registration, fee payments, timesheets and FAST will be unavailable from 5 p.m. on Friday, June 21, to 11 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, due to the annual spring update of Banner Admin and Self-Service. Gmail, D2L Brightspace and student printing will continue to function normally. Check on system statuses at mru.ca/ITSupdates.



Vote for MRU as a top filming location in North America


MRU has been nominated by Unique Venues for the 2024 Planner's Choice Award as a top filming location in North America. Support by digitally voting daily until July 19 by scrolling to award number six, select MRU Event & Theatre Services for The Last of Us, then scroll to the bottom of the page and hit submit. Vote now.

 

 

New feature on pay stubs

 

Starting Monday, June 24, most employees will see a new section at the top of their pay stubs that includes job by position number, title, hourly rate and hours per pay period. This change does not affect how employees input their time or are paid. Pay stubs can be found on the Employee Self-Service platform on MyMRU. Visit the My HR Profile section of MyMRU to learn more.



Summer hours start July 1

 

Summer operating hours come into effect Monday, July 1 (which is the Canada Day holiday), and run through Wednesday, Aug. 14. The regular operating hours for most departments will be 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a 30-minute lunch break. Exceptions are necessary for some departments and leaders will communicate those exceptions with their teams as needed.

 

 

Yahoo! Stampede Parade morning is a holiday

 

The morning — 8:30 a.m. to noon — of the Calgary Stampede Parade on Friday, July 5, is a paid holiday for all Mount Royal employees. If your regular hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (summer hours), you’re expected to work the balance of the day (12:30 to 4 p.m.). If you’d like to take off the rest of Parade Day, please get approval from your supervisor and report the 3.5 hours as leave/vacation in your timesheet.



Employee Wellness summer opportunities

 

Join Employee Wellness for Zumba in the Park. Classes will take place from noon to 12:50 p.m. on June 20 and 27, and again on July 4, 11, 18 and 25 at the TransCanada Amphitheatre unless otherwise noted. Please come prepared with water and comfortable athletic clothing. Register for all classes or select the individual classes you’d like to attend. Register now.

 

 

 

Health Services says farewell to Dr. Davies and welcomes two new doctors 

 

Health Services thanks Dr. Davies for his years of expert care and commitment to his patients at MRU. Two new physicians will be taking over Dr. Davies' patient panel. Dr. Joshua Onasanya starts mid-July and will be working Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, while Dr. Anne McLean will be starting in early September working Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Barrow Bissett School of Business location will not reopen this fall

 

Ryan Wenger, founder of Barrow Coffee Roasters, has shared that the company will not reopen its coffee cart at the Bissett School of Business this fall. Wenger explains that this decision will allow for more focused efforts at the Riddell Library and Learning Centre location and towards the same exceptional service and quality. Charting Your Course: Get tools to create your financial plan

 

Planning for the future isn’t always easy, let alone planning for retirement. In this two-day workshop, you (and your partner) can learn more about your finances, set financial priorities and receive professional advice on implementing a plan. Students win at the annual Canadian Association of Health Sciences Deans in Toronto

 

Reggie San Jose and Kyle Joseph, teacher candidates from the Bachelor of Education — Elementary program, attended the Canadian Association of Health Sciences Deans meeting in May at Toronto Metropolitan University. Accompanied by Associate Dean Maggie Quance, PhD, both students participated as winners of the Faculty of Health, Community and Education’s Student Leadership Award. San Jose and Joseph found meaningful connections at the meeting and contributed to discussions on academic adaptations during the pandemic.

Start of semester emails, with option for distribution list

As each semester begins (August/September and December/January), areas with ongoing employee activities can send an email to all employees describing their semester activities. Employees can then choose to opt in to that area's distribution list (Google Group) for regular updates. If you would like to send an email and/or set up a Google Group for your area, please contact Marketing and Communications for guidelines.
