Parking permits on sale and enforcement reminder

 

Early bird parking permits are now on sale and valid starting Sept. 1. No action is required for employees using payroll deduction with auto-renew enabled in Hotspot. Reminder: when returning to campus, backing into or pulling through stalls is not permitted and vehicles parked this way will be ticketed and/or towed after two courtesy notices issued from Aug.15 to Sept. 15. New cybersecurity training now live

Employees can access the required cybersecurity training by logging into the training platform with your mtroyal email account. This year’s pretest features 22 questions designed to gauge your cybersecurity knowledge. Contact the IT training security analyst at 403.440.6329 or securityawareness@mtroyal.ca with any questions. Regular hours resume Thursday, Aug. 15

 

Regular operating hours come back into effect on Thursday, Aug. 15. Hours for most departments are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

 

Work in the T-wing courtyard

 

Part of the T-wing courtyard by the Iniskim Centre is closed as an arborist oversees the removal of trees due to the G-wing renovation. Branches and leaves from the trees are being mulched and used in planting beds and under trees on University grounds for water conservation and weed suppression. The Iniskim Centre will use a number of the tree trunks for use in sweat lodges. An equal number of trees will be planted on campus. Learn more.

 

 

New Student Orientation support

Please support in welcoming new and returning students to campus this fall. Participation in orientation activities will help create a lasting positive impression for students as they begin their academic journey. Last year, more than 156 faculty and staff members took on 253 volunteer shifts—demonstrating the strength of our community. There are various opportunities available, from checking in students to preparing welcome materials. Sign up for August or September shifts, and if you have any questions, contact the Orientation and Transition team at orientation@mtroyal.ca

 

No water in Wyckham House Aug. 18

 

There will be no water in Wyckham House from 7 a.m. to  4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18 due to distribution pipe repairs.

Join Employee Wellness on Sept. 4 from 2 to 3 p.m. in EA2030 for the session What Is Art Therapy? with MRU faculty member Pattie Pryma, PhD. Remember to register for the Inkblot online webinar Establishing Healthy Boundaries on Sept. 11 from 10 to 11 a.m. Then join us for a Burnout Workshop presented by Grit Psychology on Sept. 18 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in EL1270. Changes in Access and Inclusion Services

 

AIS processes and procedures have changed and there have been several updates that will impact how services are requested. Students, employees and faculty should check the updates in their accommodate portal.

 

 

New way to report phishing emails

 

Mount Royal has an easier, more effective way to report phishing emails that also enhances cybersecurity. Mtroyal.ca account holders can now use gmail’s built-in reporting feature for phishing emails, rather than the phish alert button or forwarding to cybersecurity@mtroyal.ca. This will also reduce the number of phishing emails that hit your inbox. Learn how.

Answer any copyright questions with the library’s newly designed Copyright Guide. The guide includes a number of searchable FAQs, as well as the Copyright Decision Tool, providing a simple way to assist in drafting decisions regarding the use of a copyright protected work. Riddell Library has a new Reading List Tool

As each semester begins (August/September and December/January), areas with ongoing employee activities can send an email to all employees describing their semester activities. Employees can then choose to opt in to that area's distribution list (Google Group) for regular updates.
