Grow Beyond is a fresh look and idea rooted in personal growth and community connection. This new brand campaign encourages students, alumni and employees to explore, challenge and expand their horizons. More than just a tagline, the updated logo, bold visuals and redesigned homepage create an innovative, dynamic feel that highlights individual journeys. G-wing update: Road construction

Through March 29, a temporary access road is being built between the Department of General Education and Faculty of Science and Technology buildings as part of the G-wing renovation project. Expect increased construction activity, including occasional short pedestrian delays and truck traffic near Lot 5. Flaggers will be present to ensure safety. Learn more.

New Cybersecurity Training Platform

Mount Royal’s new Cybersecurity Training Platform is now live. The updated system provides a more engaging, tailored learning experience to help you better understand and combat cyber threats. Learn more.

 

Teaching and Learning Expo: Submit a Proposal

The Teaching and Learning Expo (TLX), a reimagined Celebrate! Teaching and Learning at MRU, will take place from Aug. 25 to 28. All MRU community members are invited to share insights, experiences and lessons learned through presentations held over four days. We welcome diverse sessions highlighting your teaching and learning journeys, including presentations, lightning talks and round tables. Proposals are welcome until April 11. Learn more and submit your proposal.

 

Tune in to the Cougars at Nationals

After securing the program's first Canada West silver medal, the Cougars men's hockey team is off to Ottawa for the U SPORTS National Championships. Their first game is Thursday, March 20 at 11 a.m. and you're invited to stop by classroom U161 (across from the Triple Gym) for a watch party. Snacks and drinks will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. You can also watch the games live and for free on YouTube. Campus Store closed March 28 and 31

The Cougars Campus Store will be closed on Friday, March 28 and Monday, March 31 for inventory. Regular hours of operation will resume on Tuesday, April 1.

 

Iniskim Centre Open House this Friday

The Iniskim Centre is hosting an Open House on Friday, March 21 from noon to 2 p.m. All employees are welcome to drop by T110 to visit.

 

Upcoming Employee Wellness events

On March 26 from 2 to 3 p.m. GreenShield Health will present Navigating Chronic Illness and Caregiving on Zoom. Also on March 26, the Canadian Blood Services Life Bus will provide transportation for employees to and from campus to the blood donation centre for a Group Blood Donation. On April 2 from 10 to 11 a.m. GreenShield Health presents How To Incorporate Physical Health for Busy Lifestyles on Zoom. GreenShield Health provides MRU employees with sponsored hours for various counselling, coaching and consultation services. Use your sponsored hours before they reset on Aug. 1.

Book a massage at the student practicum clinic

Book a massage at the Massage Therapy Student Practicum Clinic to experience better movement, reduced stress and improved well-being while helping future massage therapists gain valuable hands-on experience. Help kids come to MRU Camps

Since launching registration just two months ago, MRU Camps has received more than 70 bursary applications. The team anticipates a greater need this season while families continue to struggle with the rising costs of living. Last year, 69 bursaries were awarded that directly benefited 46 children who were able to attend camps as a result. If you are able, we kindly encourage you to donate today — donations are matched up to 50% by Rogers Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink.

Nursing alumna releases book on inclusive care

Jade Alcantara, a 2018 nursing grad, is set to release Carefully Chosen Words: Language for Inclusive Care in collaboration with the Bruyère Health Research Institute, the University of Ottawa and the University of Alberta. Drawing from her experience as a NICU nurse, her master’s in health science, technology and policy, and her current MBA studies, Alcantara explores how language can foster equity and innovation in health care.

 

Kin Games comes to MRU

From March 12 to 14, MRU hosted the Kinesiology Games, one of the largest student-run undergraduate conferences in Canada. Co-ordinated by athletic therapy alumnus Darrius Samaco and physical literacy alumnus Cody Bulaong, Kin Games sees up to 800 kinesiology (or related programs) students gather at a host school each year to compete in four areas: academics, athletics, dance and spirit.

The second instalment of this popular concert series spotlights some of the city's top jazz artists, including MRU Conservatory instructors. Join us on April 11, May 23 and June 27 to experience Calgary's jazz culture unfold in the heart of Lincoln Park at the Nickle Theatre at MRU. Start of semester emails, with option for distribution list

As each semester begins (August/September and December/January), areas with ongoing employee activities can send an email to all employees describing their semester activities. Employees can then choose to opt in to that area's distribution list (Google Group) for regular updates. If you would like to send an email and/or set up a Google Group for your area, please contact Marketing and Communications for guidelines.
