ITS update: Internet offline Sunday, July 13

Mount Royal’s on-campus internet service will be offline from approximately 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, for maintenance. If you experience issues accessing the internet on campus after this planned outage, contact the IT Service Desk.

 

G-wing update: Main Street washrooms closed

As part of the G-wing renovation project, the washrooms along both levels of Main Street have been closed. These closures are expected to remain in place for approximately one year. To help you find nearby options, including accessible and all-gender washrooms, visit mru.ca/Washrooms for a searchable campus map. Look for signage to guide you to the closest facilities.

 

Summer hours through Aug. 14

Mount Royal’s summer hours are in effect through Thursday, Aug. 14. The regular operating hours for most departments are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a 30-minute lunch break.

 

ITS update: Banner upgrade July 18 to 20

Access to course registration, fee payments, timesheet submission and FAST, among other services, will be unavailable from 4 p.m. on Friday, July 18, to 10 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, due to a Banner Admin and Banner Self-Service upgrade. Google Suite, including email and Drive access, and D2L are not affected.

 

EA elevator update

The elevator in the EA building remains out of service. Building Operations is working with the elevator technician to resolve the issue as quickly and safely as possible. Contact Security at 403.440.6897 to use the stair lift. Updates will be shared at mru.ca/BuildingNotifications.

 

Road work at Richardson and Bishop ways

Starting Monday, July 21, work will begin on sidewalk ramps and the median on the south side of Richardson Way. One lane in each direction will remain open, ensuring continued access to MRU. Pedestrians should follow all posted signs and detours.

Support the Calgary Food Bank this summer

MRU Camps is proud to support the Calgary Food Bank and you can help make a difference. Drop off your donations at the MRU Camps office (EA1016) or at the donation bin located at the sign-in/out area in the EA building (next to parking lot 5). The Calgary Food Bank is in need of non-perishable food, unopened toys and personal hygiene products. Every donation counts!

 

Coffee just got more affordable

Barrow Coffee Roasters is excited to share that the global coffee supply has recently increased and the Canadian dollar has gained strength — and that means savings for everyone. Barrow is bringing back their $2 coffee promotion at all locations and reducing prices on coffee bean orders, effective immediately.

 

Annual space audit underway

Through August, Facilities Management staff are entering all rooms on campus to update space information. Pictures may be taken to record the condition of finishes, furniture layouts and equipment. Replacing the roof of the Leacock Theatre

Roof replacement on the Leacock Theatre has begun and will continue through late September. Scaffolding will be set up around the exterior and on the roof to support material and debris removal. Learn more at mru.ca/BuildingNotifications.

 

Phishing reports will no longer receive a response

The University community is doing an amazing job of reporting phishing emails. So much so that there are now too many reports to respond to. Moving forward, if you are unsure if an email is malicious, assume that it is. All emails reported to Google can be found in your Spam folder and retrieved at any time. Learn more.

 

Zumba and tennis with Employee Wellness

There are three more sessions in the Zumba series on Thursdays in July from 12:05 to 12:55 p.m. at the Transcanada Amphitheatre. Tennis lessons are happening July 16, 23 and 30 from noon to 1 p.m. at the campus tennis courts. Tennis registration is currently full but please contact employeewellness@mtroyal.ca to be added to the waitlist. Learn more and register.

Honorary doctorate recipient releases documentary

On June 24, Ron Ghitter (MRU honorary doctorate 2024), along with The Dignity Forum and Calgary Foundation, premiered their documentary, "Human Rights: Fact or Fiction? A History of Human Rights in Alberta," at the Bella Concert Hall. This well-attended event also included a panel discussion with Dr. Dominique Clement, PhD (University of Alberta), Elder Grandmother Doreen Spence (MRU honorary doctorate 2022), Rob Kelly (director and producer) and Ghitter, who says the documentary aims to inform and advocate for change.

 

Datta honoured with international award for environmental heritage research

Dr. Ranjan Datta, PhD, has been recognized with the Blaze O’Connor Memorial Award by the World Archaeological Congress (WAC) for his environmental heritage research. The award was presented at WAC-10, held at Charles Darwin University in Darwin, Australia. Over 2,000 scholars from more than 30 countries gathered to engage with transformative, decolonial and community-rooted approaches to archaeology and heritage.

Start of semester emails, with option for distribution list

As each semester begins (August/September and December/January), areas with ongoing employee activities can send an email to all employees describing their semester activities. Employees can then choose to opt in to that area's distribution list (Google Group) for regular updates. If you would like to send an email and/or set up a Google Group for your area, please contact Marketing and Communications for guidelines.
