Announcements

Stadium Field upgrades underway

Work has begun on Mount Royal Stadium Field to install turf and support year-round use, benefitting the community and Cougars soccer program. We are working to minimize impacts by prioritizing safety and providing regular updates. Parking in Lot A will be limited immediately and there will be safe walking routes from that area to campus buildings. Specific advances in the project will depend on weather. Updates will be posted to Cougars Athletics and Recreation and Facilities Management as they become available.

G-wing update: Abatement work in B-wing

As the renovation of the G-wing progresses, hazardous material abatement involving asbestos-containing materials is taking place in a closed area of B-wing. This work — carried out by trained workers according to all relevant regulations and guidelines — should be complete by mid-August. A third-party environmental consultant will monitor the project, as will MRU Environmental Health and Safety. Learn more.

Fire alarm testing Aug. 13

Fire alarm testing is scheduled for Aug. 13 at 5 p.m. on the main campus and in Residence Buildings A and D. It will last about 10 minutes and evacuation is not required. There will be no bells or strobes, and the test will repeat three times. A notice will confirm that it’s only a test.

MRU Injury & Prevention Clinic service fee increase

Effective Aug. 1, there was a modest adjustment to MRU Injury & Prevention Clinic service fees. This increase allows the clinic to continue providing the highest quality of care, attract and retain highly skilled practitioners, and expand service offerings.

Employee Wellness: Focus on mental health

Employee Wellness will be offering a three-part series focused on burnout and resilience this fall. Registration for part one, Understanding Burnout, is now open for virtual and in-person sessions. Learn more and register. Also, a reminder that Green Shield Sponsored Hours of Service have reset effective Aug. 1.

MRU Camps’ Discoverers program

Do you have a young adventurer in Grades 7 to 9? In the Discoverers program, campers will hike alpine trails, trek through Grotto Canyon, explore ecosystems at Boundary Ranch, and spend a day at North Glenmore Park and Weaselhead Flats. The next camp runs Aug. 11 to 15. Learn more and register.

Teaching and Learning Expo: Aug. 25 to 28

Explore educational innovation and best practices at the Teaching and Learning Expo. Dr. Samanti Kulatilake — professor in sociology and anthropology, 2024 3M National Teaching Fellow and Distinguished Faculty Award winner — will open with a keynote on the power of experiential learning.
